See 2021 Top Solar Contractor Ranking

The top solar contractors’ list was created by Solar Power World to offer the industry an inside look at how solar companies stack up against one another. Starting with only 100 contractors in 2011 the list has grown to 500 in 2021and is compiled based on the total kilowatts installed for each of the company’s customers.

With more than 14 Megawatts installed in 2020, AGT leads the industry as the highest-volume commercial solar EPC in the State of Florida and 45th in the nation. To achieve this ranking, AGT completed many prominent projects last year, including a 2-Megawatt solar roof for Verizon in Lake Mary and the second-largest solar roof at the time of completion, 1.6 MW, in Doral, Florida for Costex Corporation.

“We believe the Top Contractors list brings AGT a sense of pride to our team and visibility to our potential customers.,” said AGT Vice President Clint Sockman, “Today we are building for Fortune 100’s alongside small business owners and the pipeline is as full as ever.”

Utility and Fuel Price Increasing for Businesses in Florida

The demand for solar installations in Florida is strong, especially following recent rate increase announcements from utility providers starting in 2022. According to recent announcements, small and medium-sized business customers would see annual rate increases of 3.9% to 4.4% between 2021 and 2025, which equate to over 18% during this time period. Large commercial and industrial customers with more complex rate structures should contact their account managers for information about their rate adjustments.  With the 4% fuel increase we have already seen in May, combined, these increases could well exceed over 30% in total. One of the best ways businesses can offset some or all of their electricity use is by investing in solar, and there’s no better time than the present.

The Solar Investment Tax Credit Can Help Provide a Great Return on Investment

The solar investment tax credit (ITC), which was scheduled to drop from 26% to 22% this year, will remain at 26% for two more years. This means that all solar projects that begin construction this year and next will be eligible to receive the 26% tax credit. The credit will drop to 22% in 2023 for all market segments, including commercial and residential, then down to 10% permanently for the commercial and utility markets in 2024.

Florida Utility Rates and Fuel Surcharges Rising in 2022

Florida Utility Rates and Fuel Surcharges Rising in 2022

Florida businesses could see a 30% price increase for energy in the next three year’s due to a combination of Utility base rate and fuel surcharge increases beginning in 2022

Businesses in Florida could see a 30% price increase for energy in the next three years due to a combination of utility base rate and fuel surcharge increases starting in 2022.

Utility customers in Florida have already begun to feel the pinch as an increase in the cost of natural gas has resulted in higher monthly electric bills since May. The state Public Service Commission recently approved a request by Utility providers to collect $302.5 million from customers to cover additional fuel costs for power plants. The additional charges will continue through the end of the year.

However, there are bigger, more long-term base rate increases on the horizon from Utility providers. To offset the rise in expenses and accommodate the state’s population growth, Utilities filed a four-year rate plan to raise customers’ monthly electric bills by 18% by 2025. Small- and medium-sized businesses will see bills increase at an average annual rate of 3.9% to 4.4% between 2021 and 2025. Large commercial and industrial customers with more complex rate structures should contact their account managers for information about their rate adjustments. With the 4% fuel increase we have already seen in May, combined, these increases could well exceed over 30% in total.

How Solar Can Offset Utility and Gas Rate Increases

One of the best ways businesses can offset some or all of their electricity use is by making a localized solar investment with a solar roof or carport system, and there’s no better time than the present.

For commercial property owners, solar benefits the bottom line with the ITC equal to 26% of the basis invested in eligible solar property that has begun construction. The typical solar investment can see a return on investment (ROI) in five to 10 years using the ITC and accelerated depreciation. Advanced Roofing and Advanced Green Technologies value ROI based on energy consumption combined with intangibles such as preserving the rooftop and other additional benefits. But beyond the economic benefits, solar is the smart choice for our environment.

With energy costs on the rise, now’s the time to grow your bottom line and increase your building’s value with solar. Call (800) 638-6869 for a free solar evaluation or click here.

2020 Solar Energy Tax Credit for Businesses

Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) 2020 Step Down

Solar Tax Credits for Businesses in Florida 2020

Take Advantage of Important Solar Tax Credits for Bussiness and Commercial Properties

As the cost of going green becomes more affordable each year, many commercial building owners are tempted to hold off on installing solar panels in an attempt to get the best deals. But as the federal investment tax credit (ITC), also known as the solar tax credit for businesses, decreased on January 1 from 30% to 26%, the clock is ticking on getting the best deal on your solar investment. Now is the best time to install a solar roofing system before next year’s step-down.

What is the Solar Tax Credit for Businesses?

The federal solar tax credit previously allowed commercial building owners to deduct 30% of the cost of installing a solar energy system from their federal income taxes until 2020. The tax credit can also be claimed as soon as the construction of the system begins. The credit and depreciation benefit helped reduce the system price by as much as 60%. Add to that savings from a reduced utility bill, and business owners were looking at a bright investment.

Solar ITC Step-Down Schedule

Since the ITC was enacted in 2006, the U.S. solar industry has grown by more than 10,000%, with an average annual growth of 50% over the last decade. Even with this success, starting January 1, 2020, the value of the tax credit began its decline from 30% to its current 26%. Next year, the credit drops even further to 22% and plummets to a permanent 10% in 2022 and onward. A four percent decrease in 2021 may sound small, but when installing a solar panel system, especially on large commercial buildings, the loss in savings can be significant.

Things to Consider When Installing Solar on Your Commercial Property

You’ve decided now is the time to go green – so what’s next? Be sure to confirm the installation timeline once you have chosen a company. Schedules vary so it is important to confirm that your system will be installed before the end of the year to get the maximum tax incentive.

Seeing (the Savings) is Believing

Some of Florida’s largest businesses like Publix Super Markets, Ed Morse, Lockheed Martin, and Advanced Roofing have installed solar on their properties, from rooftop installations to solar carports. Solar has a short payback period, provides steady financial returns, and helps business owners hedge against rising energy prices. According to our data, Advanced Roofing paid on average $1,623.00 in monthly electricity bills before going solar. After the installation of an 84-kW solar carport at our headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, our electricity bill is approximately $890.00 – a 55% reduction.

AGT Recognized as the Top Commercial Solar Contractor in Florida for 2016

Top-Commercial-Solar-Contractor-Florida-2016

Advanced Green Technologies Earns the Top Commercial Solar Contractor Ranking in Florida for the Fifth Consecutive Year–44th in the Nation

For the fifth year in a row, Advanced Green Technologies (AGT) earns the Top Commercial Solar Contractor ranking in the State of Florida, and 44th in the nation by Solar Power World magazine, the solar industry’s leading media resource. The Top 500 Solar Contractors List is developed by Solar Power World to recognize the work completed by solar contractors across the U.S. and Canada. The companies on the list are growing the economy, providing jobs and offering electricity consumers a choice about how they get their power. The list was released on July 26.

Solar energy is a renewable resource with great potential to significantly reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association, a national solar industry association. AGT is a sister company to Advanced Roofing Inc., one of the nation’s largest commercial re-roofing companies, and specializes in the design, procurement, and construction (EPC) of solar energy systems. The company employs 25 workers plus a large crew of contractors who installed nearly 48 megawatts of solar in 2015. Since its founding in 2007, the company has installed 222 megawatts of solar carports, ground mount, and rooftop solar.

AGT works amid a burgeoning business market. The U.S. solar market is expected to grow 119% this year, according to global research firm GTM Research. While a majority of solar electricity is produced at large, utility-scale solar power plants, the greatest number of solar jobs are located with companies like AGT—firms doing the work to bring clean energy to the public.

We’re excited for the continued growth of solar and are proud to be the Sunshine State’s top solar contractor, building sustainable projects that help businesses meet their bottom line while producing clean energy,” said AGT President Michael Kornahrens.

The Solar Power World recognition comes on the heels of another big honor for the company last month. ARI and AGT received First Place for Sustainability for the third year in a row for its work building the massive 2.25-megawatt solar carport at Lockheed Martin’s Clearwater campus at the 2016 Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) S.T.A.R. awards program.

AGT Selected to Construct Florida’s Largest Privately Held Solar Array

Advanced Green Technologies Selected by Lockheed Martin to build Florida’s Largest Privately Held Solar Energy Array

Lockheed Martin contracted Advanced Roofing and Advanced Green Technologies to design and build a massive 2.25 megawatt solar carport at the global security and aerospace company’s Mission Systems and Training facility in Clearwater, Florida. The project will be the largest private, non-utility owned solar array in Florida and is expected to produce 3.33 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year.

The solar carport will cover 151, 400 square feet of the facility’s parking lot with 7,260 solar modules to provide shade for 534 cars. At completion, the project is expected to cut electricity purchases for the facility by up to 60 percent, according to Lockheed Martin’s estimates.

Advanced Roofing, Florida’s largest commercial solar contractor, competed with a field of national and Florida-based firms for the contract. The company will serve as general contractor, with sister firm Advanced Green Technologies providing construction and installation.

“Since the facility’s operations will be in full swing throughout the construction schedule, precise phasing will be crucial to expedite our work and minimize disruption at the site,” said Clint Sockman, Vice President of Advanced Roofing and Advanced Green Technologies. As the state’s largest commercial re-roofing contractor, Advanced Roofing will draw on its decades of experience with large, complex projects at operational corporate, federal, healthcare, education, manufacturing and retail facilities.

Construction of the fast-tracked, multi-phased project begins this month and will employ more than 40 workers on-site, with completion set for summer 2015. In addition to design, procurement and construction of the solar carport, Advanced Roofing’s contract includes resurfacing the entire 6.65-acre asphalt parking lot at the facility.

Advanced Roofing will first resurface half the parking lot, and then install the carport’s foundations and structural steel superstructure. The contractor’s crews will then install the solar panel canopy, using high- efficiency Hanwha SolarOne S-series modules, and will add the full under-canopy LED lighting system. The first phase will be in use as the second-phase parking lot work commences.

Throughout Florida and around the nation, offsetting energy costs with solar carports is a growing trend for corporate, healthcare, hotel and government facilities. A recent national study by GTM Research projected a 76 percent increase in solar carports from 2014’s estimated annual installed capacity of 180.2 megawatts to an estimated 318 megawatts in 2016.
