61 kW Solar Carport Installation for Moss Construction in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
In 2015, Advanced Green Technologies (AGT) built a Moss Construction solar carport at the company’s headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The 61 kW canopy uses 200 solar panels to cover 22 parking spaces, turning part of the parking lot into an on-site power plant for one of Florida’s largest building companies, Moss.
A Rare Solar Canopy for South Florida
When Moss announced the project in April 2015, solar parking canopies were still rare in South Florida. The company invested about $300,000 in the system, and president Scott Moss expected it to pay for itself in about five years, thanks in part to rebates from Florida Power & Light Co. and federal tax credits.
What AGT Delivered
As the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, AGT designed the carport structure, supplied the Hanwha solar panels and AGT custom racking, and built the system over the existing parking spaces. AGT used the same carport design at Resolve Marine in Fort Lauderdale around the same time.
Results
The solar carport can produce up to 88,357 kWh of clean energy a year, with average energy savings of about $10,000 per year, while giving employees shaded parking. Read Moss’s announcement: Moss Adds Rare Solar Parking Canopy.
