Your roof could be cutting your power bill

Most commercial buildings have a flat roof that does nothing but keep the rain out. Owners often hold off on solar because they aren’t sure the roof is ready, or who to call if something goes wrong. We answer both questions up front.

Power bills that keep climbing

Electricity is one of the few operating costs that rises year after year, and cooling a Florida building pushes it higher.

Solar locks in a share of that cost for 25 years or more.

Not sure the roof qualifies

Many owners assume a roof that isn’t brand new rules out solar. Roofs with 10 or more years left are often good candidates, and we plan for the roof’s future from day one.

Every year of waiting is a year of savings missed.

Two contractors, two warranties

When the roofer and the solar installer are different companies, roof penetrations and leaks fall between them.

With the Advanced group, one team answers for both.

What could your roof produce, and when does it pay back?

The example is a 50,000 sq ft warehouse roof, 10 years into a 20-year TPO system, with the federal tax credit and depreciation included. Change any value.

How these numbers are estimated
  • About 12 W DC per sq ft of usable flat roof.
  • Production uses the kWh per kW you enter; AGT's design model sets the final figure for your roof.
  • Savings use your electricity rate, capped at your current use. Demand charges, rate increases and maintenance are not included.
  • Tax credit reduces the cost directly. Depreciation is taken on the cost less half the credit, times your tax rate, using 100% bonus depreciation.
  • Typical roof service lives: single-ply and mod bit 20, built-up 25, metal 35 years.

Send these results with your request and we will confirm them with a roof survey and a bill review.

Screening only, not tax advice. A roof survey, structural review, utility bill analysis and your tax advisor’s review come before any proposal.

Roof and solar scoped, warranted and scheduled together

When the roofer and the solar installer are different companies, penetrations, warranties and schedules fall between them. In the Advanced group they are sister companies.

  • Roof check with every proposal

Advanced Roofing checks the membrane, insulation and remaining life before the array is designed.

  • A plan for the roof’s future

Whether the roof needs nothing, a restoration at mid-life or a replacement with the install, the proposal spells it out.

  • Structural review

Dead-load and wind-load checks on the deck and framing, with ballast or attachment designed to suit.

  • Array design

Layout around equipment and setbacks, production modeling and interconnection with your utility.

  • Warranty coordination

Roof and solar penetrations, flashings and walkways planned so both warranties stay in force.

  • Monitoring and roof upkeep

Production monitoring paired with scheduled roof maintenance under the array.

How a roof + solar project runs

One plan covers the roof and the array, so both are built in the right order by companies that answer to the same group.

Assess

Roof survey, structural review, utility bill analysis and a production model.

Plan

One scope covering roof work, array design, permits and interconnection, with one schedule.

Build

Roof work first, then racking and modules, sequenced by the same group of crews.

954-735-2641Request a roof + solar assessment

Does my roof need to be new to install solar?

No. Roofs with 10 or more years of life left are often good candidates as they are. If the roof is closer to the end of its life, restoring or replacing it alongside the install is usually the lower-cost path, and AGT and Advanced Roofing can do both in one project.

Will solar panels void my roof warranty?

Not if penetrations, flashings and walkways are installed to the roof manufacturer’s requirements. Coordinating both under one group is the simplest way to keep both warranties.

How much solar fits on a commercial flat roof?

As a rough guide, about 10 to 14 W per sq ft of open roof area. Rooftop equipment, setbacks and structure reduce the usable area.

Can my roof hold the weight?

Most commercial roofs can carry a ballasted or attached array, but it must be checked. Structural review is part of every assessment.

Who does the roofing work?

Advanced Roofing, AGT’s sister company and a Florida commercial roofing contractor since 1983. Both companies are 100% employee-owned and part of the same group.

What tax incentives apply?

Under current federal law, commercial solar can qualify for an investment tax credit of up to 30% if construction began by July 4, 2026 or the system is placed in service by December 31, 2027. 100% bonus depreciation was also made permanent in 2025. Eligibility depends on your project, so confirm with your tax advisor; we provide the project data they need.
