FT. LAUDERDALE - The 2007 Winterfest Boat Parade is the first Carbon-Free event on the water in the United States thanks to the efforts of Advanced Green Technologies.
The Winterfest Parade has been separated into two types of Carbon offsets, boats and spectator travel. Carbon credits are acquired by supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency, or carbon sequestration. These projects absorb or offset harmful carbon emissions produced every day.
Winterfest Parade boats will be emitting carbon which is offset by Planktos. Planktos generates carbon credits by replenishing the oceans damaged habitats. The water’s plankton population absorbs carbon through photosynthesis similar to trees. By nourishing the plankton habitat, additional carbon is absorbed.
When Parade entries are traveling the new route, carbon emissions are coming from the tailpipe. These emissions are offset by CarbonFund. For CarbonFund and Advanced Green Technologies (AGT), the motto still stands, "Reduce what you can, offset what you can’t." The offset from CarbonFund will go to a variety of projects such as energy efficiency and reforestation.
This year’s Advanced Roofing boat will be offset separately by the photovoltaic system at Advanced Green Technologies headquarters. AGT is sponsoring the 2007 Winterfest Boat Parade’s carbon offsets in honor of Governor Charlie Crist’s continuing initiatives for climate change.
"The Governor’s leadership is propelling Florida into a greener tomorrow with energy efficiency and renewable energy," said Rob Kornahrens, CEO of AGT.
