From The Stuart News, by correspondent Jonathan Mattise, The Stuart School of Music’s Kanner Highway House has recently been renovated and retrofitted to become the first “Green” music school in Florida. The school was temporarily shut down this summer while the facility underwent a full structural transformation including installation of low-flush toilets, LED lighting, insulated windows, insulated sound proof walls, and a solar power installation. The school’s 5,000 watt FlexLight photovoltaic solar installation was installed on the school’s standing seam metal roof and was contracted by JDL Builders. Featured in the new state-of-the-art facility’s main lobby is a touch-screen computer displaying the monitoring system. ![]() The project was funded by the private school, but quickly anticipates return on investment. After the government tax credit of thirty percent on the system and a state-mandated $4-per-watt reimbursement for system purchases, the school needs to only generate $1,000 of electricity, to essentially break even. Advanced Green Technologies partnered with contractors JDL Builders as the provider of the solar installation components and panels. John Eriksen, owner of JDL Builders, and husband to the school’s owner and director, Cindy Kessler, who has run the school for sixteen years, expressed that the new state-of-the-art facility improves the teacher and student comfort and environment, leading to enhanced communication and educational achievement.
